„The colleagues from the host school welcomed us with traditions and artistic treasures: a brass band show, the dance ‘Su ballu tundu’, traditional songs from Sardinia, an exhibition and an embroidery and ceramic workshop with hadicraftsmen, folk costumes that people wear on St Isidor and  St Efisio holidays”.-Claudia

„We took part in the workshops called ‚From wheat to bread’ and ‚From milk to ricotti cheese’ on a farm, according to traditional recipes.We had a tasty Mediterranean  lunch, as a recipe for healthy existence”.-Ramona

Impressions of Polish students

We are very greatfull that Italian families took care of us
in their houses during the special week for us.
We are so happy that we took part in Comenius Reunion
in Sardinia. We met there a lot fantastic and very
friendly people. We spent there amazing, unforgetable moments.
With Comenius project „A rainbow over Europe” we
learnt the culture of the other countries and practised
our English. We saw many places in South Sardinia:
beaches, Santadi – Zuddas Cave, capital – Cagliari and
many , many more.
The most amazing was the fact that in such a short
time we all became very close to each other.
Everyday social meetings in the evenings gave us
opportunity to meet customs, traditions and habits of
other countries. We had a lot of activities and trips so
we didn’t have a chance to get bored.
The time we spent in Sardinia will stay in our hearts
forever.

Impressions about meeting in Italy

It was one of the best weeks of our life. We discovered a beautiful country and nice landscapes, high mountains and bright blue sea. We all enjoyed visiting the Old Town, the Royal Palace, the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Tower of San Pancrazio and Roman amphitheatre in Cagliari. We were thrilled for the things we were visiting and listening about the history of Sardinia. Excursion to the cave Is Zuddas in Santadi left an indelible impression on us. There we could enjoy corral and needle-shaped aragonites and various stalactites and stalagmites. It was incredible!
We really indulged in trying to make bread and cheese while participating in educational programmes in a local homestead. We learnt about Italian historic heritage visiting the villages of Pula and Nora and could enjoy a wonderful sight visiting Chia with its Dune di Campana, surrounded by typical Mediterranean brush and secular junipers!
People in this country are very friendly, sociable, kind and attentive. We think that everybody will agree that we have had a fantastic time together, but all good things must come to an end. We have made friends and maybe one day we will meet them in front of us saying “Hello.”

Dumplings with plums – Estonian students cooked Romanian dish

Students prepared dumplings with plums, which are traditional in Romania. The recipe was taken from the calendar that promotes sharing culinary traditions. We can’t tell, that cooking was difficult – recipe was quite easy. Also intresting, that we cook something similiar – „vareniki“, but as a filling we use potatoes, cherry, strawberry and we boil it. Actually we liked dumpings and maybe sometime later we will prepare it again!

This trip to Italy we will remember for a long time.

It was amazing time – we will never forget it. Offical greeting was epic: orchestra, traditional Italian dancing, speeches, student’s performances. We visited many famous places in Cagliari: Bastione di Saint Remy, San Pancrazio tower, Museo Archeologico Nazionale. We had a tour in caves Is Zuddas in Santadi. We could enjoy corral and needle-shaped aragonites and various stalactites and stalagmites. We visited traditional farm and made Italian bread and cheese. We learnt about Italian historic heritage visiting the villages of Pula and Nora and could enjoy a wonderful sight visiting Chia with its Dune di Campana. Our Italian families were very kind and they took care of us very well!
Comenius gave us fantastic chance to get new friends, to get know about other’s country culture, about education system, the traditions, art and of cource, history.
We are very grateful for for this opportunity.

TURKISH PERSONALITIES WE ARE PROUD OF

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881–1938) was an Ottoman and Turkish army officer, revolutionary statesman, writer, and the first President of Turkey. He is credited with being the founder of the Republic of Turkey. His surname, Atatürk (meaning “Father of the Turks”), was granted to him (and forbidden to any other person) in 1934 by the Turkish parliament.

Atatürk was a military officer during World War I. Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, he led the Turkish national movement in the Turkish War of Independence. he defeated the forces sent by the Allies. His military campaigns led to victory in the Turkish War of Independence. Atatürk embarked upon a program of political, economic, and cultural reforms, seeking to transform the former Ottoman Empire into a modern, secular and European nation-state. Under his leadership, thousands of new schools were built, primary education was made free and compulsory, while the burden of taxation on peasants was reduced. The principles of Atatürk’s reforms, upon which modern Turkey was established, are referred to as Kemalism.

Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi (1207 –1273), was a 13th-century poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic. Rumi’s importance is considered to transcend national and ethnic borders. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world’s languages and transposed into various formats. In 2007, he was described as the “most popular poet in America.”

Mimar Sinan (1490 –1588 was the chief Ottoman architect and civil engineer for sultans Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II, and Murad III. He was responsible for the construction of more than three hundred major structures and other more modest projects.

At about the age of fifty, he was appointed as chief royal architect, His masterpiece is the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, although his most famous work is the Suleiman Mosque in Istanbul. He is considered the greatest architect of the classical period of Ottoman architecture, and has been compared to Michelangelo, his contemporary in the West.

Italian Personalities We Are Proud Of..

Giovanni Falcone

Giovanni Falcone was a famous Italian public prosecutor. He spent most his life fighting against the huge power of Mafia in Sicily. Thanks to his tireless effort, he was able to put to trial many leaders of this criminal organization. For this reason, Sicilian Mafia sentenced him to death. After two failed attempts, Falcone was killed, together with his wife, on May 1992, on the motorway near the small town of Capaci. Together with his friend Paolo Borsellino, he is one of the main victims of the war between the Italian State and the counter-state represented by Mafia.

Rita Levi Montalcini

Rita Levi Montalcini was a brilliant Italian scientist; she was born in Turin in 1909 to a wealthy Jewish family. She died in Rome some months ago. She was specialized in neurology and received the 1986 Nobel prize in Medicine for her discovery of nerve growth factor. She was a senator for life in Italy. In addition, she had been the oldest living Nobel laureate and the first ever to reach a 100th birthday.

Roberto Benigni

Roberto Benigni is a widely-acclaimed Italian actor and director. He was born in a small town near Arezzo in 1952.  He is very famous abroad for his masterpiece «La vita è bella». The movie, for which Benigni won three Oscar awards, deals with Nazi concentration camps, focusing on victims’ lives.  He is appreciated for his social commitment and for his televised lectures on Dante’s Divina Commedia and on the Italian Constitution.

Lithuanian personalities we are proud of

Arvydas Sabonis (Born on 19^th December,1964)  is a Lithuanian retired professional basketball player and businessman (listed height 2.21 m, aged 49). He is considered one of the best big man passers as well as one of the best overall centers in the history of the game. Recognized as one of the best European players of his era, he won the Euroscar Award six times, and the Mr. Europa Award twice. He played in a variety of leagues, and spent seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States.

Vytautas Kernagis (May 19, 1951 – March 15, 2008) was a Lithuanian singer-songwriter, bard, actor, director, and television announcer. He is considered a pioneer of Lithuanian sung poetry. His songs have raised entire generation of free minded open people. V.Kernagis was a member of the pioneering Lithuanian big beat bands: Aisčiai (1966–1968) and Rupūs miltai (1969–1972).V. Kernagis also took part in the first Lithuanian rock opera “Velnio nuotaka”, first Lithuanian musical “Ugnies medžioklė su varovais” (1976) and first Lithuanian musical for a puppet theatre “Šokantis ir dainuojantis mergaitės vieversėlis”.

Dalia Grybauskaite (Born  on March 1, 1956) is the President of Lithuania, inaugurated on 12 July 2009. She was Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance, also European Commissioner for Financial Programming and the Budget from 2004 to 2009. Often referred to as the “Iron Lady” or the “Steel Magnolia”, Grybauskaitė is Lithuania’s first female head of state. D.Grybauskaite had studies at Saint Petersburg State (Zhdanov) University, Georgetown University, Washington DC. Other than her native Lithuanian she is fluent in English, Russian, French and Polish.

TURKISH STUDENTS’ IMPRESSIONS FROM GERMANY

 

 

Our visit to Germany was a very exciting experience. We enjoyed the performances of our German friends at their school.

We made some handcraft with wool at a farm house and it was amazing. We also learned about the pilot who threw candies from his plane to cheer the children up during the World War II.

We were informed about the Berlin Wall and watched a film about it.

The animals at the zoo were amazing! We also enjoyed the playground there.

We made new friends from Germany, Lithuania, Italy, Spain, Poland, Estonia and Romania. And we enjoyed the sports competition a lot.

We also liked the Reichstag building, the Pergamon museum and the ducks in the lake at king Frederick’s palace. 

The host families, German teachers and students were very kind to us. We thank them a lot for their hospitality.

TURKISH STUDENTS’ IMPRESSIONS FROM THE MEETING IN ESTONIA

A fairy tale from Tallinn

Once upon a time two Turkish girls: Gizem and Edanur had the opportunity to visit a country that was far, far away from their home, thanks to a Comenius project. That country was Estonia!

The road to Estonia was long and tough. They were very tired but finally they got to Estonia and it was great! They met their hosts who were really friendly and started exploring this amazing country!

The weather was cold and rainy but that did not stop them from having fun! All the people they met were so warm and nice that the weather did not matter anymore. They knew how lucky there were. They got wonderful time there.

On the first day, they visited the school which was very amazing and they learned about the school and the education system. They thought the students were so cute and nice.

Next day they visited Kumu Art Museum, the largest and most impressive exhibition venue in Estonia. They also visited Seaplane Harbour in Tallinn a beautiful maritime museum. They enjoyed both of the visits.

On the third day, they did a sightseeing tour of the historic city of Tallinn which is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. They enjoyed an orientation game in Tallinn Old Town and learned about its magnificent architecture. The same day they also visited The TV Tower, Estonia’s highest building with a splendid view.

The other days they took part in workshops, textile printing and felting. They learned about Estonian autumn tradition – Mardipäev. They talked about racism and xenophobia. They made presentations about singers and composers. They got lot of new interesting ideas and experiences. They had the chance to learn about other cultures, see other perspectives and improve their English.

The last day they enjoyed taking part in the karaoke competition and traditional dance – Kaerajaan.

At the end of the day everyone said bye to each other and the Turkish group headed home. The road was long and tiring again but they got home safe. They lived happily ever after and they never forgot Estonia!!

 

We want to thank everyone who was involved in this amazing project and the people who made this dream trip come true.
